Heartland MLS to Launch New Advisory Councils for Customer Feedback and Engagement

May 1, 2026 in Heartland MLS

Heartland MLS will be establishing three new advisory councils this year, with more to come, in order to partner with stakeholders and ensure it is meeting customer needs. Prospective volunteers are invited to an informational happy hour on May 14 in the KCRAR Leawood classroom, where HMLS leaders will go over the expectations, obligations and application processes for these new councils.

These advisory councils would be made up of HMLS customers who are not active Directors on the HMLS Board. Each council, via its chair or vice chair, will report to the Board, providing feedback and recommendations on issues of importance to stakeholders.

  • Broker Advisory Council: This council will meet quarterly each year to discuss how the MLS can best serve brokers with its products, services and data, reporting its findings to the Board.
  • Power Users Advisory Council: This council will meet twice each year and be composed of agents, team or office admins, transaction coordinators and broker associates with strong marketplace knowledge to provide insights from a producer perspective for the MLS, including representatives that can address each side of the transaction, property management, new homes and resale.
  • Appraisers Advisory Council: The council will meet quarterly to discuss how the MLS can serve appraisers through its systems and data, reporting issues and needs to the Board.

“I can promise that you are better for giving back and our collective community is better for having heard your voice,” HMLS President Jessica Thomas said. “This level of volunteer leadership has ripples from brokerages to agents to our consumers and those ripples elevate our entire industry.”

“Part of our new brand promise, Property Data that Moves YouSM, consists of strengthening our relationships with stakeholders and being a collaborative partner, supporting the professionals in the business to foster cooperation and to help everyone succeed,” HMLS Sr. VP Rob Wagoner said. “These volunteer opportunities will help us gain feedback from key groups to ensure we are providing the services, data and products needed to be successful.”

For the inaugural term, council members will serve June 2026 through the end of 2027. Beginning 2028, volunteer terms will run one calendar year with the option to reapply for additional terms.

Applications to serve will open on May 14.
