NAR Advocacy to Focus on COVID-19 Relief, Housing Affordability, Racial Equity in 2021

January 21, 2021 in Government Affairs

Political Representative for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Jack Greacen spoke to the KCRAR Advocacy Committees last week, assuring REALTORS® that NAR believes the Biden administration is favorable to housing issues.

He said the main focus of the Biden administration and the 117th Congress, at the moment, is COVID-19 relief and vaccination. At the end of last year, COVID-19 legislation passed that included various key tax extenders, additional support for the Paycheck Protection Program and funding for rental assistance. This came as a victory for NAR advocacy, and protecting property owners and REALTORS® who have been financially impacted by COVID-19 will continue to be a priority for NAR.

When President Biden was sworn in earlier this week, his inauguration speech focused heavily on the theme of unity. NAR applauded that goal and pledged to continue its advocacy work at the federal level.

“NAR is committed to assisting President Biden and the new Congress as we seek to heal our nation and strengthen the economy, continuing our 113-year tradition of working with every Congress and Presidential administration,” NAR President Charlie Oppler said in a statement. “We look forward to partnering on many of our common goals, including policies that will advance and expand the American Dream of homeownership, address housing affordability and accessibility, and promote fair housing and racial equity.”
