What SPCs and FPCs Do—and Why It Matters for Your Business

Advocacy is one of the greatest strengths of the REALTOR® organization, and that strength comes from members who step forward to lead it. Two roles in particular—the State Political Coordinator (SPC) and the Federal Political Coordinator (FPC)—give REALTORS® in Kansas and Missouri a powerful voice in shaping the laws and policies that affect their clients, their communities, and their businesses. These positions offer members a meaningful way to influence decisions, protect private property rights and build relationships with the lawmakers who shape the future of real estate. For REALTORS® who want to elevate their professional presence and strengthen their business, becoming an SPC or FPC is one of the most impactful ways to get involved.

In both states, SPCs serve as the trusted connection between REALTORS® and state legislators. By building ongoing relationships with lawmakers, SPCs help ensure that the REALTOR® perspective is part of every major policy discussion in Topeka and Jefferson City. This work doesn’t just benefit the industry—it benefits the individual REALTOR®. SPCs become recognized experts in their communities, strengthening their credibility with clients who understand the broader forces shaping the housing market. Being an SPC positions a REALTOR® as a leader, a resource and someone who is actively protecting the interests of homeowners and property owners.

FPCs extend that influence to the national level, serving as the REALTOR® Party’s direct link to members of Congress. They meet with federal lawmakers, participate in national legislative meetings and help shape discussions on issues like flood insurance, mortgage finance, tax policy and fair housing. For REALTORS®, this role offers a unique opportunity to build relationships with influential decision‑makers while gaining a deeper understanding of the federal policies that affect their business. FPCs often find that this experience enhances their professional reputation, expands their network and gives them insights they can share with clients who want to understand how national trends may impact their buying or selling decisions.

What makes these programs especially valuable is how they elevate a REALTOR®’s visibility and influence. SPCs and FPCs become known as leaders within the industry and trusted voices within their communities. They gain access to high‑level conversations, build strong professional relationships and develop a deeper understanding of the legislative landscape. This knowledge translates directly into business value—clients trust REALTORS® who understand the policies shaping the market, and colleagues respect those who help protect the profession.

For members who want to learn more about how State Political Coordinators and Federal Political Coordinators support REALTOR® advocacy, additional information is available through Missouri REALTORS®, Kansas REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. Each organization provides resources that explain the roles in greater detail, outline current legislative priorities and offer opportunities for members to get involved.
