Cynda Rader is a REALTOR® of over 30 years and a current Lee’s Summit Councilmember. Now, she is running for mayor of Lee’s Summit in the April 7 municipal election.

As a resident of Lee’s Summit for 50 years, Rader has served on Lee’s Summit Tax Review Board, Water Utilities Board and Planning Commission, all prior to her current role on the Lee’s Summit City Council. Rader believes she could do even more for her community as mayor, and a large part of her campaign platform is affordable housing.

“We’re out of balance,” Rader said in an interview with the KCRAR RPAC Trustees. “We are not offering options for people to own, like I believe that we should. Because this is what Lee’s Summit was founded on, homeownership, land ownership. And I want to see development; I want to see us grow responsibly.”

If elected, she said the development of attainable housing options for homeowners, such townhomes or duplexes, would be a priority. While she said believes incentives are positive tools to bring businesses to the city, she said she is opposed to incentivizing the development of renter-occupied apartments, which already exist in Lee’s Summit.

“There have just been so many apartments that have come up the last four or five years, and no path for attainable homes,” Rader said.

Rader said her experience as a REALTOR® has influenced her policy perspective, and she affirmed that she would continue to partner and collaborate with KCRAR if elected as mayor.

Cynda Rader is an RPAC-supported candidate. RPAC is a nonpartisan voluntary fund that supports candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to property rights, homeownership and policies that foster thriving communities. RPAC support is overseen by the KCRAR RPAC Trustees, who carefully evaluate candidates’ records, positions and engagement with issues that impact homeowners, businesses and neighborhoods.
