The 2026 General Election delivered a significant result for REALTOR® advocacy across Kansas and Missouri. Candidates featured in the KCRAR voter guides prevailed in 57 of 74 unique races, a combined 77% success rate, earning victories from local government and state legislatures to Congress.
Those results came amid a pronounced national political shift. Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress and made substantial gains in territory that has traditionally favored Republicans. Seven Republican-held U.S. Senate seats changed hands, including Kansas, which elected its first Democratic U.S. senator since 1932.
The election also resulted in five REALTOR® candidates earning victories in their respective races:
- Jennifer Langston Justus, REALTOR® | Clay County Presiding Commissioner
- Taylor Crouse, REALTOR® | Missouri House District 11
- Carolyn Caton, REALTOR® | Missouri House District 33
- Rick James, REALTOR® | Kansas House District 4
- Allison Hougland, REALTOR® | Kansas House District 15
“These REALTOR® leaders’ firsthand understanding of housing, property ownership and the real estate transaction will bring an important perspective to the decisions that shape how our communities grow and how property owners, consumers and real estate professionals are affected by public policy,” said James Toy, KCRAR Senior Vice President of Government Affairs.
The attention of REALTOR® advocacy now turns to 2027, with municipal elections approaching in April and newly elected officials preparing to govern. In the months ahead, decisions will be made that affect housing supply, development, taxation, private property rights and the ability of REALTORS® to serve their clients and build their businesses.
“This is why RPAC matters,” Toy said. “RPAC gives REALTORS® the ability to do together what no individual member can accomplish alone. The 2026 General Election demonstrated what a strong REALTOR® voice can accomplish.”
