REALTOR® Bill Baird hopes to bring a focus on comprehensive strategic planning to Jackson County if elected as County Executive. He is bringing decades of experience in real estate, business and public service to his campaign, as well as relationships with many of the mayors in the county from his eight years of service as Lee’s Summit Mayor.
“I want to start talking about a strategic development and growth plan for the county, because the county is shrinking,” Baird said in an interview with the KCRAR RPAC Trustees. “The county is not addressing housing issues. The county is not addressing economic development. It’s not even talking about it.”
Baird is centering his campaign for Jackson County Executive on improving government transparency, supporting public safety, encouraging responsible economic development and stabilizing property taxes. Baird acknowledged the property tax issue is on the minds of many Jackson County residents and addressing it will be “priority one, day one” if he is elected.
“We’re going to stabilize taxes for taxpayers because they should not be forced out of their home because their taxes went up,” Baird said. “They need stability. They need certainty.”
As a REALTOR®, including service as president of Heartland MLS in 2012, affordable housing is a priority for Baird. He said as County Executive he would collaborate with the cities to try to make housing more affordable.
“I believe in homeownership,” Baird said. “I’m still always trying to figure out, how do you get people so that they can afford to not only live in the community, but maybe own something in the community in which they live.”
