Dozens of REALTORS® gathered at three locations in Olathe and Kansas City, Kansas on Wednesday to build new affordable homes with Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City. While this was the tenth REALTORS® Rock the Block since the event’s creation in 2016, this year was the just second year that REALTORS® worked on constructing new homes for future homeowners.
Groups in Kansas City, Kansas worked on building walls for six new Habitat KC homes that will be constructed in the Organization for Community Preservation Neighborhood, while a group in Olathe, Kansas put finishing touches on new homes in Pathway at Heritage Park, the Habitat KC development KCRAR members worked on at last year’s REALTORS® Rock the Block.
“Rock the Block is a great example of what can happen when our community comes together around affordable homeownership,” said Lindsay Hicks, President & CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City. “The walls built by KCRAR volunteers will become six homes for local families, creating opportunities for stability, equity and a stronger future. We’re incredibly grateful for KCRAR’s continued partnership and commitment to helping more families achieve their dream of homeownership.”
REALTORS® Rock the Block shifted to new construction to meet the demands of a shifting market. Up until last year, REALTORS® Rock the Block focused on increasing and sustaining home value for homeowners through the revitalization of existing homes across the region. Today, with low inventory and high demand driving up home value, Kansas City REALTORS® are working to increase attainable housing inventory.
This year’s REALTORS® Rock the Block event was supported by sponsors including Continental Title Company, Maverick Exteriors, Commerce Bank, Home Warranty Inc., realtor.com and Guild Mortgage.
