As we enter 2024, it’s hard not to feel the “New Year, New You” mentality take over. Companies pay millions in promotions for us to see these types of ads in our social media feed, our email inboxes and even popping up in our mailboxes. Weight loss plans, gym memberships, home exercise equipment, anti-wrinkle creams, the list goes on and on, and I know we’ve all seen them in the last week. REALTORS® seem to be especially targeted in this by lead generation companies, the latest online coaching programs, the newest self-help book, planners and so on. Please don’t get me wrong, I do not aim to discredit any of these services or deny the value that they can hold for agents, but rather to acknowledge that it can be overwhelming and make us feel like we must make immediate, drastic changes to be happy and successful.
I love the feeling of a “fresh start” as much as the next person, but it can be especially daunting for REALTORS® in January, when we all sort of feel like we are starting back at square one again, no matter how many years we’ve been in the business. My suggestion is to allow yourself the grace to realize you already hold the keys to success. Instead of trying to do everything different and new this year, I think you will find that sticking to the fundamentals of our business is truly where the success in real estate lies. Making sure you are delivering remarkable service to your clients and staying connected with your sphere of influence are the cornerstones of an agent’s present and future success. No matter what may change in our industry, these things will always be true, and by making a plan to consistently do these things, you are prepared. I would urge you to channel that “fresh start” energy into a trusted business plan surrounding these fundamentals and make sure your goals are SMART, to which there are a few variations, but to me is: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timebound. And, good news! If you haven’t made your goals yet for this year, it looks like there are more snow days in our future to work on them!
