Watching the first quarter of the AFC championship game I will not lie, I was concerned. Can they do this? Again? We were down 9 – not a great start. But something huge happened and quickly changed my thinking. I watched as Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes approached their teammate who had made a huge mistake. They were pumping him up, reassuring him – you got this, we will do this, shake it off. What true teammates. True leaders. Supporting each other. Lifting each other up. It made me think about my team. Our team. Our REALTOR® team.
In case you may live under a rock and have not heard – they won! They did it! They worked together and nailed it. They wanted it so badly. They worked so hard and not one could have done it without the other. They had succeeded as a team and once again claimed the victory!
It made me think of my everyday life and especially my REALTOR® life. I thought about how we overcame and are also working towards the victory. We have had to learn to live, love, work and play very differently this last year. We have been faced with tackles no one could predict. Early in the pandemic, we had no idea what was coming or how to face it – fear set in. Will our businesses survive? Are we essential? Will my family stay healthy? How will we get food… and toilet paper? I watched the news for solid weeks. I was depressed, discouraged and full of fear as the lockdown approached. Now we were shut in. I felt isolated and lonely despite being home with my family. I reminded myself of my constant motto, “This too shall pass,” to try and stay positive. I remind others of this frequently. I had to believe it more than ever now. It is not any major advice or life changing quote, but it’s true. It always does pass. I always find a positive, although sometimes it sure may not feel positive. I passionately believe positivity creates energy and positive energy promotes success.
In this game of life, I quickly realized I could do it, WE could do it. It may be a while, but we can. We must be in it TOGETHER. It would come with new rules, dressing as Doctors with all our PPE, educating our sellers and buyers, cleaning and sanitizing, working out the showings and closings, BUT we could do it. It would be a lot of extra work. Teamwork. It would take all our players to work through new challenges to get to the closing… or shall I say touchdown. It would take communication and cooperation more than ever across company lines to come together.
Despite this new work life, it was a great year for real estate sales. Despite the tackles, blocks and sacs on the way to the end zone, we did it. We succeeded. We are REALTORS®. We are a team, and more than ever I feel we are a community. I encourage you to continue to spread the positivity and grace we have all been giving and receiving this last year, because this too shall pass. As a team, we can work together to overcome anything. We have proved that. Take a moment to encourage your teammate – maybe the co-op agent, the lender or even the closer. Take a moment to say thank you and let them know you care that we will get there. Let us continue to score the extra point and keep rushing to the victory.
And of course – Go Chiefs!

Angela:
Great comments and encouragement as we’ve all learned to adapt to all the unknow changes we had to experience in 2020 and with out a doubt have surfaced with a way we had to grow that made us all a “Better Realtor” then and will continue on into the 2021 year. I look forward to 2021 and so far it has been outstanding for the “Timbrook Team”!
