For agents who work with investors, understanding how 1031 exchanges can benefit clients can be an asset. This session will provide attendees with details how the tax deferred exchanges work and the date extensions that are included in the CARES Act. Burke will go over the basic rules of Internal Revenue Code Section 1031. She will explore topics including:
- 1031 exchange requirements and terms
- Creating an exchange
- Understanding like-kind properties
- Timeframes
- Financial requirements
- Same Taxpayer requirement
- Reverse Exchanges
Burke graduated from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then attended DePaul University College of Law, Chicago and graduated in 1995. Burke practiced law until 2002. In 2003, she obtained her real estate broker’s license and established her own commercial real estate brokerage. Since then, Burke had been involved in commercial real estate in the capacity of property manager and leasing agent. In 2015, Burke joined First American Exchange Company as Business Development Manager and currently has business development responsibilities in the Midwest Region, including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri and Kentucky.
