REALTORS® from across the nation gathered this week in Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of our clients, the public and our profession. I’m proud that KCRAR members represented our region at these critical meetings on Capitol Hill with federal lawmakers including Senators Jerry Moran and Eric Schmitt and Representatives Mark Alford, Emmanual Cleaver, Sharice Davids, Sam Graves and Derek Schmidt. Why do these busy members of congress make the time to meet with REALTORS®? Because they understand the importance of real estate and homeownership on the economy and the community.
These hill visits help to build and maintain relationships with policy makers, but they also act as a resource to explain our position when Congress is considering an important piece of legislation. The meetings offer the opportunity for us to share the REALTOR® perspective on issues that matter to our profession.
This week, a prime focus of ours as we talked with our legislators was building housing supply and opportunity for all. With an estimated 4.7 million-unit shortage, our country is facing a housing inventory crisis. The legislators we talked with have the power to support several bills that could help make it easier for Americans to find homes they can afford.
As we sat across from members of Congress, I was inspired by the care they have for housing issues and the receptiveness they showed to the insights and personal experiences of REALTORS®. Thank you to everyone who has made a contribution to RPAC, which is a crucial step as we advocate for homeownership.
