The KCRAR Board of Directors approved changes to the makeup of the
KCRAR Board of Directors and the KCRAR Executive Committee during the July
Directors meeting. Since these changes
will impact the KCRAR Bylaws, before they can be put into place a vote in favor
of the changes will be required by a majority of KCRAR Members voting. A ballot will be sent to all KCRAR REALTOR®
Members in early August.
You may be wondering why changes to the Board and the Executive
Committee are being considered. Many boards revisit the composition of their
board structure from time-to-time; it is a normal and healthy process for
boards to do so. The last time the Board
structure at KCRAR was modified was in 2014 when the Small Brokerage
Representative seat was added to the Board of Directors.
This article will summarize the proposed changes to the KCRAR
Board of Directors and the KCRAR Executive Committee.
Proposed
Changes to the KCRAR Board of Directors:
- Replace the one-year Presidential appointment
of a Small Firm Representative having 10 or fewer agents, with an elected Small
Firm Representative with 20 or fewer REALTOR® members for a three-year
term.
- Require the Commercial Representative on the
KCRAR Board be a REALTOR® member or an NAR Institute Affiliate.
- Only REALTOR
® members and NAR Institute Affiliates
may be elected to serve on the Board.
- Create four new At-large elected Director
positions with the requirement that two of the four positions be held by
Broker-Owners or Managing Brokers (presently 3 elected director positions must
be held by Broker-Owners or Managing Brokers).
- Eliminate the existing elected Director
positions from each Region based on the Region member population count and
replace with one elected Director from each Region.
Voting/Director Election:
- All REALTOR
® members receive ballots for the two
“general” At-large Director positions.
- Only Brokers (Designated REALTORS
®) receive
ballots for the two At-large Broker-Owner/Broker Manger Director
positions. (Same practice as present,
only Brokers receive ballots to elect these positions).
- Only REALTOR
® members in the subject Region
receive ballots to elect a Director running for a Region position. (Same practice as present).
- Only Brokers (Designated REALTORS
®) of firms
with 20 or fewer REALTOR® members receive ballots to elect the Small Firm
Representative.
Proposed
Changes to the KCRAR Executive Committee:
- Removal of the requirement that a Commercial
Representative serve on the Executive Committee.
- Require the composition of the Executive
Committee not to exceed four members from any one brand. (Presently there is no
limit or restrictions of the number of positions held by individuals in one
firm or of the same brand/franchise.)
