KCRAR held its annual Shred Day last week, raising approximately $7,000 for this year’s REALTORS® Rock the Block event with Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City. REALTORS® from around the region and their clients drove through the KCRAR office parking lot in Leawood, Kan. to safely dispose of their unneeded files at a small donation per box.
With each box of files being recycled after shredding, Shred Day participants recycled a record-breaking 39,375 pounds of paper in total during the event, conserving the resources of 335 trees, over 137,000 gallons of water and nearly 2,000 cubic yards of landfill space. The event also offered eCycling for electronics, which totaled 1,567 pounds.
“KCRAR Shred Day is a great example of how a simple service offered to its members can have a positive impact on the KC community beyond home ownership,” KCRAR Events Specialist April Lemon said. “We’re proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity to give back to the community, using the funds raised to help existing homeowners make home improvements in local neighborhoods.”
This event was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of ProShred and KCRAR’s Annual Sponsors and the volunteer hours from REALTORS® and Industry Partners on the KCRAR Events & Outreach Advisory Group.
